Google DeepMind Partners with Indie Studio A24 in $75M AI Filmmaking Deal

LOS ANGELES — Google DeepMind has announced a $75 million investment into prominent indie film studio A24, marking a significant milestone in tech-Hollywood collaborations.

Billed as a “first-of-its-kind” partnership, the alliance aims to develop next-generation AI tools tailored for film production. Under the agreement, Google DeepMind will receive direct feedback and creative guidance from leading artists within A24’s network. The studio has recently produced critically acclaimed hits such as Everything Everywhere All At Once, Backrooms, and the upcoming Marty Supreme, working alongside top-tier talent like Timothée Chalamet and Anne Hathaway.

“We believe the best way to develop tools that empower artists is to work directly with them,” said Demis Hassabis, co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, in a press statement. “By collaborating with filmmakers and industry leaders like A24 from the beginning, we can build new AI features to support artists in authentic, meaningful storytelling that helps enable their creative vision.”

The Growing Intersection of Tech and Cinema

While the integration of artificial intelligence remains a highly debated topic across Hollywood, A24 is not alone in exploring its potential.

The deal reflects a broader industry trend where major tech players and streaming platforms are establishing a foothold in AI-driven entertainment:

  • Netflix recently acquired InterPositive, an entertainment tech company co-founded by Ben Affleck that specializes in AI filmmaking tools.
  • Amazon MGM Studios launched a dedicated internal AI unit last year, focusing on streamlining television and movie production pipelines.

The collaboration between Google DeepMind and A24 signals a shift toward structured, artist-led development of creative AI tools, as Silicon Valley seeks to legitimize the technology within mainstream cinema.
